New York artist NiiKo has shared his newest single, ‘Perfect Timing,’ as his fanbase grows and he sees himself with more listeners than ever. 

‘Perfect Timing’ is a no-nonsense drill-rap track about what it means to rise to the occasion and not miss your moment when you see it coming. Over a well-crafted production beat, NiiKo’s laid-back yet energetic rap flow comes to the forefront. He is perfectly pitched as he delivers lines about what it means - literally and figuratively - to arrive somewhere at just the right time: “Lately, I’ve been trying/Lately, I’ve been driving/Made it, perfect timing,” he sings in the song’s chorus. 

For those who know NiiKo’s backstory and history, the idea of this artist arriving at just the right time will ring through in a very satisfying - not to mention humorous - way. 

The artist, who hails from Batavia in New York, was born Ryan Francesco DiMartino. Throughout his early life, DiMartino was big on being an athlete, meaning that he only wanted to play baseball throughout his youth. The stars felt like they were aligning for DiMartino when, after high school, he duly received a scholarship to play in a college in Florida. 

But just when his dreams of playing his chosen sport professionally seemed closer than ever, they were snatched away from him. DiMartino suffered a UCL injury in the middle of his college life, and all plans for a baseball career were shelved and eventually dashed altogether. 

He left college with a BA in Sports Management and not much else. He didn’t know what he wanted to do with his life, a fact that hung over him as he found himself increasingly heading down dangerous paths. As he puts it, he started working at boring jobs, saving up just enough so that he could get by in his new, depressing, mid-20s lifestyle - which consisted mainly of partying, taking drugs, and little else.

Then, one night, while freestyling at a friend’s house over hip-hop beats, DiMartino discovered that he had a latent talent for making these delightful melodic drill-rap verses - not to mention that he had pent-up lyrics that seemed to burst out of him. 

Within days, he began recording his music in the studio and adopting the music persona, eventually styling himself as “NiiKo.” 

‍Since 2022, the artist has released plenty of exciting tracks, each offering an example of his energy and versatility. 

‘Perfect Timing,’ written at the start of NiiKo’s music journey, gives fans another chapter into his style and unique backstory.
