Dr. Adam Goodcoff started on social media with one goal in mind, sharing his passion for education. “Patients should be in control of their own health, and they should understand their health conditions,” says Dr. Goodcoff. With the pandemic driving an interest in healthcare on social media, Dr. Goodcoff immediately saw viral growth. Shortly after, he was offered the surprise of a lifetime, an offer to visit the President of the United States at the White House.
During 2019, Dr. Goodcoff, the doctor behind the social media handle @seethemedlife, rose to prominence with over 2 million followers across his platforms to date. His content has a clear focus on healthcare and medicine with the goal of providing education to millions each month. While the Instagram discovery page and the now famous TikTok For You Page (FYP) sent out his content, the White House took notice of Dr. Goodcoff’s efforts. In April of 2022, Dr. Goodcoff was invited to an event with President Joe Biden at the White House. The president spoke on a progressively more relevant topic, gun violence. As Dr. Goodcoff mentions “Sadly, this is something we see on a daily basis in the emergency department.” The event was focused around reducing harm from gun violence through the banning of untraceable “ghost guns.” Dr. Goodcoff reflected on his time at the White House surrounded by survivors of gun violence in his post viewed by hundreds of thousands. However, his experiences interacting with the White House did not end here.
In May of 2022, Dr. Goodcoff was invited to attend the Healthcare Leaders in Social Media Roundtable hosted by the White House Office of Public Engagement. Dr. Goodcoff, alongside other healthcare leaders, shared insight into public health issues and how those messages could be amplified on social media. One example was getting the word out about 988, a mental health hotline being rolled out across The United States this July. Previously, those in mental health crises would need to remember a long 10-digit phone number to get help. Dr. Goodcoff, alongside other experts in healthcare, shared the value of having a streamlined and easy to remember hotline number on social media to their collective millions of followers. Dr. Goodcoff and members of the roundtable have tackled other issues such as medical debt and health equity in mothers of color and mental health in America. Their goal is simple: provide access and education to their followers across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube.
When asked where Dr. Goodcoff sees himself in a year, he said “It’s really hard to predict. Social media changes incredibly quickly. Two years ago, I was educating from my bedroom and now I have had opportunities to educate from 10 feet away from the President.” He plans to continue his quest to provide education to both healthcare providers and the general public alike. Dr. Goodcoff also shared the inside scoop about his new YouTube project Your Health Explained. “We wanted something that could answer all of your questions if you were to have a new diagnosis or condition.” Dr. Adam Goodcoff and his team have been building a library of medically focused videos explaining common health conditions.
