After gaining attention in the 2018 short film _Requiescat_, Adrian Favela can see his budding career beginning to head in the right direction (especially with his upcoming role in _Under the Stadium Lights_ aside Laurence Fishburne). Now, Favela stars in the horror flick _Wrong Turn_ about a group of friends hiking in the Appalachian mountains who stumble upon a community of people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years. _Flaunt_ caught up with the young actor to chat about _Wrong Turn_, out today! If you were making a dating profile of yourself, how would you describe yourself?** Ah it’s been a while since I’ve had one of those! If I had one it would go something like: Let’s dance under the moonlight, laugh at memes, swim in the ocean, travel to incredible destinations, and chase our dreams together. Or something completely random like: “Look at all those Chickens” If you know what I’m talking about we’re off to a good start.
**How exciting is it to be part of rebooting such a popular series of films like _Wrong Turn_?** It’s been such an exciting experience. The _Wrong Turn_ Franchise has such a cult following, it was a bit daunting at first. You want to excite the fans who have been watching the films since the beginning but you also want to give them fresh and new ideas. It was also a bit nerve racking to jump into a cast full of horror alumni, but everyone was so amazing and welcoming. I definitely have a big love for all of the horror community
**This film sets itself apart from the previous films, without giving away the ending, where do you see the _Wrong Turn_ films going from here?** I hope the film continues in the direction of having a strong female heroine. Charlotte Vega is such a talented actress I hope women find themselves represented in a powerful way.
**What was your favorite part of filming _Wrong Turn_, either on screen or off?** My favorite part of filming _Wrong Turn_ was working with the cast. A lot of the scenes were based purely off imagination and creating an imaginary world to play in. In a sense, it was like being a little kid playing an imaginary game with your friends, but like a scary rated-R version \[laughs\]. When I’m working as a photographer, I’m pushing the envelope by telling stories with moments frozen in time. I think a lot of us walk around with our everyday “masks” if you will, the versions of ourselves we want others to see. When I’m working with people, I’m telling stories by giving them the encouragement and space to drop their masks and feel powerful in who they are. Then I freeze that moment in time. That’s my favorite part of photography.
**We understand you spent significant parts of your childhood living in Hawaii, is that your favorite place on earth? For someone who has never been there, where would you say they unquestionably have to visit.** Yes! I was a Military kid so I moved around quite a bit, but Hawaii was the place I spent the most time growing up. I would say it is one of my favorite places on earth. I love that everything slows down and becomes more organic when you’re on an island. One of the most breath-taking places on the island is The Stairway to Heaven. Definitely take the designated trails to avoid any trouble.
**You get to work with the legendary Laurence Fishburne in the upcoming film Under the Stadium Lights, can you tell the readers more about that film?**
Under the Stadium lights is a football drama based on the bestselling true story book “Brother’s Keeper”. We dive into the lives and struggles of the Abilene Eagle football players while they were competing for the state championship. We filmed the movie in Abilene, TX at the actual school the film is based on, and I have to say, it was special. I got to meet the real Anthony Cariola, who I was playing in the film which helped me build the real-life character I was playing. This story means a lot to the people of Abilene, I’m so happy I was a part of it.
**What have you been doing to keep your self sane during the Covid-19 crisis?** I spent a lot of time reading, learning Spanish, and taking time to reconnect with family. At the top of quarantine, I spent a few months at my grandparents' house. I helped them around the house and took care of anything they had to do outside of the house. I also got really into video games which I never played before quarantine \[laughs\]. I’m currently obsessed with Pokemon and Fortnite. So random, but whenever I travel for work, the first nights at the hotel are always a bit off, so I put the movie on, and it helps me settle in. I love reading the _Power of Now_ and _The Secret_. Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, I pick a random chapter to help me stay present. Song-wise, I’m currently stuck on “I love you” by Billie Eilish. It’s actually the song I used to help me prepare for the log scene in _Wrong Turn_.
**You self-styled yourself for these images and did a fantastic job. Who are you fashion influences, favorite designers?** Thank you! I appreciate that. My all-time favorite designer is Alexander McQueen. He really inspires me to push my ideas of fashion and to feel free in what I decide to wear. I think it's great to build your individual confidence in how you present yourself and to remember there are no rules and you can do whatever you want in fashion. Currently I’m getting a lot of fashion influence from Jack D. Grazer, Lil Nas X, and Harry Styles.
