The Lauren Iungerich-created series, which documents four South Los Angeles teenagers’ journey through the exciting, explorative, and oft-excruciating high school years, snaps an honest, heartfelt, and even humorous picture through a much-needed underrepresented lens. Characters Monsé Finnie, Cesar Diaz, Ruby Martinez Jr, Jamal Turner, and Jasmine Flores return for the third season to fanfare. Flaunt wonders what it means to work on a series that’s actively advocating less-amplified voices and diversity.
**Why do you think _On My Block_ was received as well as it was?**
It is just so relatable, we got diversity being portrayed on the screen. Kids were seeing themselves in our characters. I said in an earlier interview that our show really set the wave for other shows of diversity to be made.
**Season 2 got very dark. What can you tell us about Season 3?**
I think you’re going to cry more, but also laugh your ass off. Expect the unexpected!

**What are your motivations when you’re acting? What are you inspired by?**
Other scenes, other actors, and music. I try to bring it very close to reality. When I am portraying heartbreak I think of something heartbreaking in my life and try to combine the two worlds, just to keep it authentic and keep it real, not to be show-boaty.
