In a dialogue between modernity and tradition, technology and heritage, cyberspace and reality, the Men’s Fall 2021 collection from Christian Dior pins these dichotomies up against one another. Dior Men’s Artistic Director Kim Jones brings traditional aesthetics up against the digital era through a virtual presentation of the new collection.
In its pursuit of bridging these gaps, Kim Jones taps artist Kenny Scharf to bring his distinct cartoons of pop culture and science fiction into contact with the heritage of Dior craftsmanship. Dior ateliers bring Scharf’s works to life through embroidery and prints, featuring the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Not only bridging gaps between history and the contemporary, the collection bridges cultural gaps, drawing a line from Chinese techniques and symbols to the French Couture house.
