The Phoenix-born, Los-Angeles based singer/ songwriter, Alec Benjamin, is a self-made success story within the music industry. The Atlantic Records musician built his following with “parking lot shows” for fans outside of Shawn Mendes and Troye Sivan concerts, and consistently uploaded new tunes to Youtube. After gaining a fan empire and praise from the media, Alec’s career took off. While this story is exemplary of self-success, it’s just the beginning.
With a cinematic, lo-fi pop sound, Benjamin’s style influences range anywhere from Eminem to Paul Simon to Citizen Cope. This cinematic style reflects largely in his summer hit “Let Me Down Slowly,” where he sings an aching portrait of broken love:
_“Could you find a way to let me down slowly?_
_A little sympathy, I hope you can show me_
_If you wanna go then I'll be so lonely_
_If you're leaving baby let me down slowly”_
Today, Alec releases his acoustic version of “Let Me Down Slowly” with a Flaunt video premiere. We caught up with the tenacious prodigy to hear a few quick words.
**_From "Let Me Down Slowly," what lyric holds the most meaning to you?_**
I don’t think there is a particular lyric that means the most to me...I would say it’s the meaning of the song as a whole.
**_Tour life or studio life?_**
Tour life.
**_Tell us something most people don't know about you._**
One thing people don’t know about me is that I can speak some Chinese :0 . I also love heavy metal.
**_What can we expect from you in the near future?_**
More music and more shows!
