In 1958, a man named [George Harrison](https://www.georgeharrison.com) joined an unknown eclectic Liverpool band called the Quarrymen, which would eventually evolve into The Beatles. Half a century later, Harrison now rests in a tier of music that can only be described as Holy—perhaps as high in acclaim and fame a human could go.
From the Beatles to his almost equally iconic solo works, long after Harrison’s passing, the world still revisits the magnum opus of his musical mind _All Things Must Pass_. The record is a landmark of 1970’s sound. It was, and is, a masterpiece that delivered to the world proof of Harrison’s individual brilliance. It blends his signature understanding of longstanding international music, particularly from his time in India, with the iconic rock from which he was born. His decision to exceed the restrictions of genre is the exact same reason why the sound is fresh over 50 years later. As the prolific artist himself describes “I still like the songs on the album and believe they can continue to outlive the style in which they were recorded,” adding, however, “it was difficult to resist re-mixing every track. All these years later I would like to liberate some of the songs from the big production that seemed appropriate at the time.”
Songs like “My Sweet Lord” and “Isn’t it a Pity” continuously rack up millions of listeners, so it is of no surprise that the world longs for more from the musical visionary, which this year comes in deluxe rereleases. The recent rerelease and deluxe editions of the artist's creation, which came directly from his estate, mark the just missed 50th anniversary of _All Things Must Pass_. Lovingly and delicately done over many years, the Harrison Family created the perfect homage to the original treasure, fulfilling George Harrison’s longtime dreams.
The long-awaited release is available in a variety of editions. The Super Deluxe Edition, is, as the name indicates, plethoric. It is available on 5CDs or 8LPs made up of over 72 tracks, including 42 demo recordings, outtakes, and jams never released. The box set version has the added touch of a Blu-ray disk that enables listeners to enjoy Harrison’s sound in high quality surround sound. Within the boxes is also a mesmerizing gift from Oliva Harrison, a curated 60-page scrapbook of unseen content, thoughts, memorabilia, notes, images and so much more. Lastly, the set also has an Original Album replica poster that can hang above your head as you experience the masterfulness of _All Things Must Pass_.
The even more impressive but incredibly limited in quantity alternative is the Uber Deluxe Edition box set. Within are 8LPs and 5CDs, and the Blu-ray audio disc, all of which is delivered in a stunning artisan wooden crate. On top of that, the crate contains 2 books, an expanded version of the scrapbook, small replica figurines of the subjects of the album cover, an illustration by artist Klaus Voorman, a copy of “Light from the Great One,” and, in a fitting last touch, Rudraksha Beads. The entire box set exceeds the expectations for even the most die-hard George Harrison fans out there.
Rolling Stone once called the album “The War and Peace of Rock and Roll” which is the perfect way to describe it as it bears the magnificent lengthy allure and brilliance of Tolstoy’s book, a legacy which it will likely never shrug. This newest release of unheard or seen content is a blessing to the music world and lovers of Harrison’s profound gifts.
