[Jordyn Simone](http://ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=14070098&l=08c2d35e-0968-473c-b877-cddfce2e0622&r=a43b97f2-fac7-455f-bb61-02fb7d7e8d62)’s second solo song, "Burn", is out now, and it’s proof of the evolution of her unique sound. The self-proclaimed “genre-less” artist is redefining what the grind to success looks like. Competing as a finalist on both the Voice and American Idol, nothing is stopping the 21-year-old singer/songwriter.
On the track, Jordyn explains, “_Burn_ represents the realization that fire fuels strength and from all darkness comes light.” Embodying the up and down energy of life: the successes, the failures, and the ultimate goal of finding love with oneself.
_Flaunt_ talked to the artist about her new song, the meaning of being “genre-less,” and her plans for the future.
**What was your inspiration for "Burn"?**
I didn’t think much about the session originally. Ncognita and I were hanging with friends and the song just spewed out of us. It wasn’t a session we walked into knowing what we were gonna talk about or planning on pouring our hearts out but once Liza and John (2 of the producers on the song) laid down the bare bones of the track, we knew we needed to dig deep and create from a place of vulnerability, honesty, and power. We found inspiration in our personal growth, in the evolution of our adulthood, and losing and finding love
**What was it like collaborating with Ncognita on the project?**
Ncognita and I have been collaborating since the beginning of both of our careers. We’ve been best friends since high school so working with her feels like second nature. She has always been an inspiration to my songwriting and offers a fresh perspective to my sound.
**Why do you classify yourself as "genre-less"?**
Because, like most artists, I hate feeling confined to one sound, one look, one goal. When I’m creating music I think about the overall soundscape and how I can push the boundaries of contemporary music as a whole and adding labels to that process stunts creative growth.

**How would you describe your sound?**
I grew up on R&B so that will always be a large component of my sound but over the years I’ve also fallen in love with pop, rock, EDM, and country. So I’m passionate about combining all of these opposing sounds/genres to create something new and different. Music that’s timeless and can last for generations to come.
**What else are you passionate about besides music?**
Haha, that’s such a hard question. Everything about my life revolves around music: my friends, my environment, and all my interests. But I’ve been having meaningful conversations with creatives about making space for other things in my life in order to not drive myself crazy. So I’ve been devoting time and energy to creating a healthy space for my mental and physical health, so working out and self-care days have been a new passion that I’m discovering.
**Any new projects or music in the future? EP or album plans?**
Yes, of course! Liza (my manager) and I have been working on a monthly rollout plan for my singles. We’re planning on staying consistent with this idea for the next 6 months to see where it takes me. We’ve also decided to take a little more time for a multi-track project, we’re hoping to continue to grow an authentic fanbase and when we’re ready, gear up for an EP!
