After over a year of being trapped in the confines of cream colored walls and over-exercising my baking skills, it was about time I added some color to my life. I decided to fly far from home with a friend to the little cliffside town of Positano in Campania, Italy. Of course, with the perfect holiday destination came the perfect hotel experience to bring the comfort and luxury that a trip to Positano requires. Situated on the picturesque Amalfi coast overlooking the pastel colored architecture and the expansive sparkling blue water sits the [Palazzo Margherita Hotel](https://www.margheritapositano.com/). We chose to walk to the hotel, and the walk itself was something straight out of a summer romance movie. Colored ceramics, the smell of fresh lemons, and narrow side streets of classic Italian architecture enchanted me all at once. It felt like a red carpet leading me to the hotel of my dreams.

As if the magical walk through the town hadn’t been enough to leave me breathless, I opened the door to the most exquisite apartment at the Palazzo Margherita. Green and yellow mosaics decorated the room with the most elegant details and furniture. As I explored the charming rooms, I remembered being told that the Palazzo Margherita had been built in 1885 in the fishing village. I was dazzled at the history—that many years before I lived, someone also walked upon these checkered tiles. I then realized I hadn’t opened the door to the porch. That was the real source of awe. As I stepped out I could see the entire village of Positano, a perfectly cut out cliff decorated with arched buildings leading down to a sea sprinkled with boats and the Li Galli isles. It’s a spectacle at every hour, in the morning you can marvel at the blue ocean and lively village, at sunset the orange, pink, and yellow color changing horizon, and at night the buildings lighting up like little stars.

The next morning we made use of the outside table and ordered ourselves an assortment of food from the small village market only a two minute walk from Palazzo Margherita—fresh mozzarella, warm focaccia, pear juice, and flaky croissants. In the distance, we watched boats leave and come back and listened to the birds chirp, a refreshing break from the normal sound of cars outside my window. The peace and beauty of it all might be what makes the Palazzo Margherita such a delight.

Of course, one of the most enticing things about staying at the Palazzo Margherita is the town in which it lives. Exploring the village of Positano was an absolute storybook experience. As you walk down the winding stairs of the village you find arches of bright purple bougainvilleas and small boutiques selling handmade jewelry and ceramics, a much needed break from the shopping I’m used to. The beautiful church of Santa Maria Assunta is a must and a short walk from the hotel. Inside you find an ornate cathedral and you can view the famous _Black Madonna_ over the altar. Near the church is the gorgeous main beach. We laid our towels down and basked in the Italian sun with occasional swims in the clear water. We spotted the Palazzo Margherita on the cliffside hanging over us in the distance.

Our visit came to an end, and we had to say goodbye to the unreal experience that was staying at the Palazzo Margherita. I knew from the day I got there that the stay would be a treasured memory, and of course, as I am sitting here writing this in a landlocked city, I can’t help but close my eyes and reimagine the dreamy escape I had this summer at the Palazzo Margherita.
