Written, produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Hazel, the track’s celestial soundscape is marked by her fingerprint. Speaking on the song, Hazel explains, ”My inspiration for the song came from personal experiences, but also specifically the way I related to this excerpt I read about Janis Joplin in Patti Smith’s novel, _Just Kids_ a few years ago. Janis spends her evening at this party with a handsome man and at the end of the night he leaves with another woman. She cries to Patti about spending “another night alone.” This really stuck with me because I thought, how could this iconic rockstar of a woman waste her tears on unrequited romance? But I feel her at the same time. Being “one of the guys” and being respected is really amazing, and I much prefer that to not being taken seriously. However, there are times when I just want all the cliche romantic things women are supposed to want. I’m glad I was able to vent about it and capture this feeling in my work, as I feel it touches on the complexity of feminism." Continuing, Hazel remarks on the music video for “Tired of Being Myself”, directed and edited by herself, with her manager Yanin Varela as the director of photography, saying, “I wanted it to capture the raw emotion of the song and not focus on plot, but rather the performance. I packed up a suitcase full of looks and we drove around Coachella valley looking for places that were visually appealing. The whole thing was pretty spontaneous, which is the same way the song was made." Watch the video below and dig into this rising star.
