Rita Lowery painstakingly built her business RITAHAIR strand by strand. Her family immigrated to America when she was six to escape the possibility of political persecution in Iran. This was during the time of the cultural revolution in Iran, starting with the 1979 Revolution and the toppling of Shah Mohammad Reza. It was a frightening decade in the country that resulted in many reforms and present day Iran.
After coming to the US, her family worked hard, and Rita followed suit by starting to do hair for money at the age of 15. She found she was quite talented at it and enjoyed the work. At 17, she began doing hair extensions and became deeply embedded in that world.
