Theodore Boyer | Star Maps
Los Angeles native Theodore Boyer will be exhibiting his new Star Maps series at SHOW Gallery this month. The artist’s work explores the universe through mathematical patterns and how these formulas mold the universe as well as lead to its eventual end. Working with bleached and dyed linen as well as acrylic and oil paints, Boyer ventures through the cosmos, drawing inspiration from satellite images, scientific journals, and NASA generated images, as well as his own personal observations.

Born in Seal Beach, California, Boyer attended the Zurich University of the Arts in 2011 and graduated from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2012. His work has been exhibited in group shows in renowned galleries such as the Underground Museum and the Museum of Mexico City. He has also shown in solo and two-person exhibitions at Shulamit Nazarian Gallery, Hilde, and LA and Patrick Painter Inc.
Boyer’s process pulls from the change of technology and its abilities in giving us access to visualize the universe as well as inviting us to consider what might be beyond what we can see. Against a backdrop of bleeding colors, sharp geometric lines and shapes reminiscent of constellations draw a map over the nebula of bleach and dye. This exhibition features 8 paintings and a new sculpture on the first floor as well as a handmade pillow sculpture upstairs.

Star Maps will hold its artist’s reception tomorrow, October 19, from 4:30 PM to 8 PM. The exhibition will be on display until November 3, 2019 at SHOW Gallery Los Angeles, 1515 N Gardner St, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
