“Wow No Cow” | Earworm Reimagined by for album to benefit NIVA

Even if you didn’t catch the Super Bowl last weekend, you probably heard plenty of chatter about the ads afterwards. One clip in particular emerged as one of the most polarizing and talked about of the big game, featuring the CEO of Oatly seated behind a keyboard in the middle of an oat field belting out “Wow No Cow!”—the catchy earworm of a jingle he had composed for the oat milk company which was founded more than 20 years ago. The spot was produced for less than the catering budget of a typical Super Bowl ad a few years ago in Sweden, where the company is headquartered. The song and commercial were subsequently banned there after a lawsuit by the Swedish dairy lobby. Now less than a week after its US debut, “Wow No Cow” is getting the remix treatment by dozens of indie artists, out-of-work roadies and touring musicians, commissioned by Oatly to reimagine the song. The tracks have been compiled into an album for sale on [Bandcamp](https://oatly.bandcamp.com/album/wow-no-cow) that benefits the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), an organization that came together during the pandemic to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent venues and promoters devastated by months of no live performances.  The 60 tracks on the Wow No Cow compilation—all banned in Sweden, btw—represent nearly every genre of music: from hip hop to yacht rock to lo-fi and chillwave to Americana and country to Scottish fiddle and Chinese traditional. There’s even a [sea shanty](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUstetf0-Ns) version.
