_Meet the multi-disciplinary creator tasked with defining RAW for the next generation of G-Star's denim line._

G-Star RAW has appointed Argentinian-born artist and designer Aitor Throup as their new creative director. Throup, who has won multiple awards for his designs and has been cited as one of the most influential people in fashion by journalist Tim Blanks, has a history with G-Star RAW: while working with the company for two years as a creative consultant, Throup art-directed several campaigns, developed the concept of the Oxford Street Flagship store, and created the notable 3D denim staq paint. In addition to his work with G-Star RAW, Throup is known for his multi-disciplinary design house called, “A.T. Studio,” which released his conceptual clothing collection ‘New Object Research.’
Throup moved from Buenos Aires to Burnley, Lancashire in 1992. He followed his passion for fashion and drawing to the Manchester Metropolitan University, where he earned a BA in fashion design in 2004. Two years later he received his MA in fashion menswear from the Royal College of Art in London.
His creative direction initially began in sports, when in 2008 he began working as a creative consultant for the British football brand Umbro in 2008. He was involved in the design of the football kits worn by the England football team at the 2010 World Cup. From there the artist moved into the music industry, creatively directing for the British rock band Kasabian, as well as Damon Albarn’s first solo album ‘Everyday Robots’ in 2014. He’s worked as an art director/stylist for _i-D_ Magazine, _Dazed and Confused,_ and _V Man_, and has also dabbled with the film industry, designing the uniforms for both installments of _The Hunger Games: Mockingjay_ series.
Currently, Throup leads G-Star’s RAW Research project, which focuses on “crafting denim through the process of exploration, curiosity, and experimentation,” according to G-Star RAW.
“I first started working with G-Star RAW because I recognized that a big part of their success had resulted from taking risks and challenging the conventions of denim,” said Throup.
Some examples from the RAW Research project premiered at Paris Men’s Fashion Week with raving reviews. The first series of the experimental collection will be available in select stores around the world in mid-November 2016.
