Eleanor Tomlinson
“She is fun and charming. She’s also very clever and meticulously goes through the scripts asking detailed questions, wanting to get everything exactly right.” – Executive Producer Karen Thrussell, _Poldark_ (2015)
CALIFUK appoints yass kween of the period piece to Eleanor Tomlinson._\[22\]_ In 2005, the 13-year-old actress landed the part of Young Sophie, the Duchess Von Teschen, in Neil Burger’s Oscar-nominated mystery _The Illusionist_ (2006)—set in late 19th century Austria-Hungary. One period fantasy leads to another it seems. Tomlinson tackled the role of Fiona Chataway in Tim Burton’s _Alice In Wonderland_ (2010) \[inhabiting Lewis Carroll’s 19th century fantasy realm, Underland\]; then illustrious Isabelle, the princess abducted by giants, in Bryan Singer’s adventure fantasy _Jack the Giant Slayer_ (2013) \[based loosely on the fairy tale\]; in one year, she also took on lead roles in two one-off mini-TV series, _The White Queen_ (2013) \[set in 15th century England\] and _Death Comes to Pemberley_ (2013) \[set immediately after the events of _Pride and Prejudice_\]. Now, Tomlinson is starring opposite Aidan Turner on BBC One television drama _Poldark_. Set in Cornwall County immediately following the American Revolution, the porcelain skinned, fiery-haired Tomlinson plays the wily daughter of a tin miner. Surely, logic informed her shift away from the “weightier metals” of her more familiar roles in the fantasy of the court.
