The Granger Hotel is an exclusive getaway in the urban district of Downtown San Diego. The historic building is now home to this one-of-a-kind hotel made only for its guests. This private sanctuary provides a unique experience for travelers with its hospitality, art, and historic architecture. The owners' vision, Alvin and Kevin Mansour, “stems from a desire to blend the charm of intimate service with distinctive design, catering to the modern traveler who seeks more than just a place to sleep.” Guests are immersed in the history of the community. Each element of the hotel is carefully curated to reflect its vibrant, coastal surroundings.
Before the building was converted into San Diego’s first guest-only hotel, some of the most prominent local figures walked the halls. The building was designed by renowned architect William Quayle in 1904. The building was commissioned by banker Ralph Granger, who is also the hotel's namesake. After the walls went up, the building was home to the Merchant’s National Bank (precursor to Bank of America), Jeweler Joseph Jessop, and San Diego Zoo founder Dr. Harry Wegeforth. The city’s history floods the halls of The Granger Hotel, and its exclusive experience lets guests soak it all in.
The design elements in the hotel are also selected to uplift and support the surrounding community. Art and furniture from local artists and artisans occupy each room. Erika Baker, Oram Hotels' creative director, worked closely with the Mansour brothers to ensure guests are fully immersed in their story. Custom murals on the walls and ceilings create movement and perpetuate the vintage feeling of the space. Large windows, rich textures, playful colors, and marble come together to create an eclectic, lived-in feeling.
Guests walk down a dimly lit hallway and reach an original 120-year-old door to find one of the 96 loft-style guest rooms. Many of the rooms feature Baker's original artworks and hand-selected vintage items. The bathroom is lined with marble and complemented by Le Labo products. Beyond the rooms, guests can visit the cafe 5th and Lox, or the lounge, The Parlor Room, and at night they can visit the bar and try the custom cocktails. When guests are ready to experience the vibrancy of the city, they can explore the Gaslamp Quarter, where they will find restaurants, bars, and entertainment like the House of Blues and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
