[](#)[](#) Multi-faceted performer Elisa Lasowski on playing the Queen “Nervousness comes with performance energy. It always exists, and I think it’s necessary to create good work. If you’re entirely relaxed it probably means somewhere that you’re a bit too detached.” Presumably, it’s not easy being The Queen. However, London-based actress Elisa Lasowski, gives even Queen Elizabeth I a run for the crown jewels when she reigns supreme as Queen Marie-Thérèse in the new BBC2 drama _Versailles_. Lasowski—known widely for her smaller roles in major shows such as HBO’s _Game of Thrones_ and movies like _Burnt_ (2015) where she starred alongside Bradley Cooper—is now a part of one the largest-budget period dramas ever created for the small screen. On being nervous to be a part of such a major production, Lasowski says: “Nervousness comes with performance energy. It always exists, and I think it’s necessary to create good work. If you’re entirely relaxed it probably means somewhere that you’re a bit too detached.” After _Versailles_ premiered in the UK it was met with mixed reviews, mostly being criticized for its racy sex scenes. “I don’t really read reviews so it doesn’t actually affect me,” says the actress. “A lot of the reviews came from the fact that they hadn’t shown a show like that on British television before. It took the press four to five weeks to warm up to the show, but now reviews are good.” Having premiered last November in France, _Versailles_ is set to become available to US audiences via Netflix this fall and will premiere on Ovation TV Saturday, October 1 at 10 PM. Lasowski is familiar with both large and small-scale projects and credits her love for acting to her multi-performance background: “I grew up dancing a lot. Music is really important to me, it’s a big part of my life and the way I see the world creatively.” The multi-faceted performer appeared in David Bowie’s music video for “Blackstar,” off his final album. “I go where the stories take me,” she says,  “acting has always been about storytelling—human emotion and psychology. I love learning from new experiences.” When Lasowski gets a break she usually fills it with more work. She has a new film she will be working on in September and promo tours for _Versailles_. “Once in a while, I prefer doing nothing, when I can, but I find that hard to do,” she explains. “The philosophy is work hard and not necessarily party hard, but do all of the things that I love hard.” #### Photographer: Jessie Craig for Patricia Mcmahon Represents. #### Stylist: Francesca Turner.
