It’s 2011, you’re riding in the backseat of your parent’s car wishing you could ride shotgun, and Rebecca Black’s “Friday” starts blasting on the radio. You’re bopping your head to the accidentally campy hit and wishing Friday would come faster so you can hop on your bike and head over to your friend’s house. Fast forward to 2021, those lyrics are still engrained in your brain, but you’ve somehow become an adult. You’re nostalgic for those good ol’ days, but Friday’s just don’t feel like they used to. Rebecca Black is here, once again, to save you after that long work week. 10 years after the track’s release, Black is celebrating “Friday” with a remix of the song that put her on the map. The “Girlfriend” singer has gathered names like Big Freedia (also known as Queen Diva), Dorian Electra and 3OH!3 to help her turn put a mature twist on the original track. Dylan Brady (of 100 Gecs), producer, and Weston Allen, videographer, contribute further to the remix that we didn’t know we needed. The music video for the remix contrasts the original music video, leaning more into the campiness of the song, as well as modernizing it. It’s hypnotic, playful, and will make the kid in you resurface. rebecca black 2-flaunt ![rebecca black 2-flaunt](https://cdn.prod.website-files.com/62ee0bbe0c783a903ecc0ddb/6472d26cbbb78b03bf52ef3e_rebecca%2Bblack%2B2-flaunt.jpeg) “I’d had the idea to do this remix of Friday for years leading up to now but honestly it was also mildly insane for me to think anyone else would want to be a part of it. As I started talking about it with other artists and producers I couldn’t believe how stoked people were about it. I am thrilled to have some of my favorite artists (and people) as a part of this moment—Dylan Brady, Dorian Electra, Big Freedia, 3OH!3." ![rebecca black img 1.jpg](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/56c346b607eaa09d9189a870/1612906357606-DK6HU4B2IK68S4K7IW2O/rebecca+black+img+1.jpg) * [](https://facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906357606-DK6HU4B2IK68S4K7IW2O%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B1.jpg&t=Flaunt%20Magazine) * [](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906357606-DK6HU4B2IK68S4K7IW2O%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B1.jpg&text=Flaunt%20Magazine) * [](http://pinterest.com/pin/create/link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906357606-DK6HU4B2IK68S4K7IW2O%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B1.jpg&media=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906357606-DK6HU4B2IK68S4K7IW2O%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B1.jpg&description=Flaunt%20Magazine) ![rebecca black img 4.jpg](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/56c346b607eaa09d9189a870/1612906362444-1M9R5BYKUUIC3LA4FN2A/rebecca+black+img+4.jpg) * [](https://facebook.com/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906362444-1M9R5BYKUUIC3LA4FN2A%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B4.jpg&t=Flaunt%20Magazine) * [](https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906362444-1M9R5BYKUUIC3LA4FN2A%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B4.jpg&text=Flaunt%20Magazine) * [](http://pinterest.com/pin/create/link/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906362444-1M9R5BYKUUIC3LA4FN2A%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B4.jpg&media=https%3A%2F%2Fimages.squarespace-cdn.com%2Fcontent%2Fv1%2F56c346b607eaa09d9189a870%2F1612906362444-1M9R5BYKUUIC3LA4FN2A%2Frebecca%2Bblack%2Bimg%2B4.jpg&description=Flaunt%20Magazine) The 23 year old LGBTQ+ community advocate and member has grown up quite a bit since her debut single, releasing singles such as “Anyway,” “Sweetheart,” and “Closer.” She has worked with AdCouncil, GLAAD, and Best Buddies, and has taken to speaking up for the disenfranchised and mistreated. Never shying away from speaking about her own experiences, Black has embraced her teenage hit, and it shows in her unapologetic remix of “Friday.”
