After teasing across their socials for several weeks, hip-hop and R&B powerhouse label AOMG, finally announced their newest signing as South Korean pop artist [DeVita](https://www.instagram.com/lilchoster/?hl=en). DeVita initially had a taste of fame at 16 years old when she received critical acclaim on South Korean reality TV competition ‘K-Pop Star’. Since then she started gaining attention after releasing several unique and soulful tracks through SoundCloud, which scored her collaborations with AOMG artist Woo Wonjae and label boss Jay Park, and eventually an official signing to the label in 2020. Her debut EP CRÈME, released earlier this month, portrays DeVita's refined sensibility in a profound way, with the name being a homage to 'crème de la crème’, meaning ‘best of the best’ in French. The record is comprised of five tracks, which all explore her growth as an artist over the past three years and demonstrate her versatile ability as a singer, writer and producer. Flaunt recently caught up with DeVita to talk about her EP CRÈME, her style icon and what she’s been doing to keep busy during quarantine. **DeVita - congratulations on being signed to AOMG! How did this relationship first come about? How do you feel about being signed to such an esteemed label?** Thank you guys so much! It all started from light wind from a butterfly. I was active on SoundCloud after graduating high school and a New York promoter called Jaeki listened to my tracks and recommended them to a Korean artist called KIRIN from 8BallTown and it kept on going and became where we are now. I am grateful for the people who believed in me and excited to be a part of AOMG. **How have you been keeping motivated and occupying your time during quarantine?**  I’ve been watching movies and reading books to get motivated and inspired. One of the books I would recommend is ‘No Death, No Fear.’ **Talk us through the creative process with your album CRÈME.** I’ve been working on this EP since I was in high school. I think the time itself from a teenager to an adult has inspired me throughout the creative process. **You grew up in Korea, but moved to the US in 2009 - as a youngster, was the plan always to be an artist?** I’ve always been an artist of my own even though I didn’t know if I will ever get to the point to share my music with people. **Do you find that your Korean heritage inspires your music?** I consider myself a citizen of the world (as Jay Park once said) and I think having both Korean and American sides of me makes me unique. **Can you tell us a bit more about the meaning behind the name DeVita?** ‘DeVita’ is derived from ‘Salvatore Di Vita,’ a character of the movie ‘Cinema Paradiso’ and ‘Evita Peron,’ a former first lady of Argentina. ”**1974” is a really poignant track - what would you say is the overall message behind the single?** This song is like going through my diary, of which I write about my deep and complex feelings. I would say this is the song about the most honest side of mine. What’s been your go-to outfit during quarantine?** 99% of my outfits are from ‘Hidden Characters,’ a brand based in Chicago. During quarantine, I usually wear pajamas, but also enjoy dressing up with make-up and wigs for fun even though I’m not going out at all. **Who is your ultimate fashion icon?** Lady Gaga. **What’s next for DeVita?** I don’t want to reveal yet and keep people on their toes. Please keep following me to see what’s next!
