Ethereal, poppy, and enticing, the new video for Tatiana Hazel’s “Don’t Care” brings you into a world entirely of her making. The choppy VHS film and pop-star styling land you somewhere between 80s revival and the undeniable spunk of 90s-era “Spice World.” Whichever way you end up leaning, it's clear that Hazel has a hold on something many industry leaders have been trying to bottle up and mass produce for years: attitude. Unfortunately, or fortunately for up-and-comers like Hazel, no one has successfully faked it yet. Part of what makes this new outing feel so genuine is the fact that Hazel has lent her artistic sensibilities to nearly ever part of the process. In the video, she wears all of her own designs, some of which have also been spotted on the likes of Kali Uchis and Girl Ultra. Hazel is also a bilingual songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Of the video, Hazel said, “The two scenes in the video where I break away from the backgrounds that match my clothing represent breaking away from my past and exploring something new. These scenes were inspired by the set design in one of my favorite films ‘Nowhere’ by Gregg Araki. Towards the end of the video you start to see more movement, as well as a change in color and lighting as it goes from day to night. The progression represents releasing pent up emotion towards something in order to finally move on and become indifferent. ‘I don’t care if you don’t.’” Keep an eye out for Hazel’s future projects and watch the video for “Don’t Care” below. * * * Photo Credit: Yanin Varela
