Fortunately for us, that eye will find its bullseye when she drops her new EP, Skygirl, on August 21st. Rowdy, spirited, surreal, and sincere, we know this one is gonna get it done. The musician recently signed to Substream Records, and atop dropping videos for new singles “Rattlesnake” and “Beam Me Up” to soothe our quarantine blues in recent months, she caught up with Flaunt for a quick convo, in this, the weirdest ever fucking year of our lives. Hey Lauren Rocket, how is your quarantine experience? Complicated. It’s a very multifaceted experience that at times feels like time is stagnant, and sometimes warped speed. And sometimes super productive and sometimes so lazy. Happy and sad. Really just trying to be in the moment and take it one day at a time. How is the recent release of “Beam Me Up” different than other songs you’ve put out? This song is really special to me. It was the first song I wrote (with Linus Dotson) that kind of sparked this idea for a conceptual EP about exploring other worlds, thinking outside the box, questioning reality, and extraterrestrial existence. It was a super fun EP to write and it’s special because everything we do at the moment has added weight. When do you feel most comfortable? I feel most comfortable when I’m at home in my space. I’m a homebody. When do you feel at your strongest? I think I feel my strongest when I’m writing. It truly lights me up to write songs, and I can feel the adrenaline make me almost high. I need that light to be confident in myself.
