[Tom Misch](https://www.instagram.com/tommisch/) and [Yussef Dayes](https://www.instagram.com/yussefdayes/) will release their new collaborative album, _What Kinda Music_ on April 24th with Blue Note, a label that has been a pillar for heightening and showcasing the evolution of jazz throughout the decades. Both prominent artists in their own right, their oscillation of sound and feeling vibrates in this new album in an illustrious and decadent new approach.
With a combined approach, they waver through the combining sleek euphoric electronic, progressive jazz, hip hop sounds with an unexpected radical sophistication that leaves the listener eased in a backdrop of nuance and possibility. The latest music video for “Kyiv” (live) from the upcoming _What Kinda Music_ features an abstracted performance which showcases band members playin in an interestingly enough comfortable social distanced space as a dancing duo get ever so intimate using their bodies to serenade the band. Over all an interesting offering in the current social climate that is ever so progressive as it is classic in its poetry. Flaunt got a few questions with Tom and Yussef for the premiere see what they have to say below.

**When you created this visual, how did you conceive separating the instrumentalists and keeping such personal space with the dancers?**
Tom Misch: The concept was all from an amazing Brazilian director called Douglas Bernardt. The video is the same set up as we used for our track "Lift Off". It was -5 degrees in Kyiv and we had to jam in between takes of “Lift Off” to stay warm and Kyiv actually came out of those jams. We had a little roll of film left at the end of the shooting so we tried this off the cuff and luckily it worked and the track ended up on the album!
Yussef Dayes: Just making sure everyone got there room to express movement without being limited.
**How do you see this in the current context of our times?**
Yussef Dayes: Even if we gotta stay in our yard, you wanna make sure you got your space to be your temple.
So it’s somewhere you can work and create ideas, train, and chill with the family.
**With all the madness have you been able to better collaborate with your cohorts in making music?**
Tom Misch: No but I’ve been playing more guitar than ever... I’ve been looping stuff on my pedal and playing along making covers.. putting them up on YouTube as a series called quarantine sessions.
Yussef Dayes: It’s a good time for people to just free up themselves and send riddims back and forth and capture the vibe in the moment.
**What have you been doing to keep yourself sane with all of this and what can you give us advice on how to best use our time?**
Tom Misch: I’ve been making sure I get daily exercise of some sort, play some guitar or make a beat and I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix lol. Maybe use the time to learn a new craft or do that hobby that you never had time to do.
Yussef Dayes: I try to focus on the blessings that come out of what we perceive as being a negative. I’ve been using my time given time to reflect on my life and see the things I wanna level up on. Been connecting with family and making sure my people are good. Cooking that good food and training everyday has given me a routine that I’ve always wanted.
