So… There's this noun-cum-adjective that everybody of all ages is thinking about at all times and trying to enact in their everyday and can’t stop referencing even in the most precarious, turbulent political situations. It has something to do with this time of year. Rascal summer. Hellion summer. Imp. Delinquent. Wretch. People are trying to have the kind of summer they can remember forever and ever, and they’re sitting on their couches and scrolling through their TikToks and getting a little too drunk at their neighborhood bars and screeching: I’m soooo Julia!
Oh, but Aminé? He’s in Ischia, Italy, and he’s having a real, genuine brat summer.
The Portland-born singer, rapper, and lime-green luminary just dropped a cheeky answer to pop-girl Charli XCX’s smash summer hit, "360"– standing on the edge of an Italian cliff, illuminated by a gently waning pink sun, Aminé takes sips of red wine and offers us "350.5" (as much a gesture to XCX’s original as it is to previous mixtapes TWOPOINTFIVE and ONEPOINTFIVE). Delivering his self-assured amalgam of pop-culture references with that bouncy cadence that everyone has come to know and love, it’s difficult to imagine anyone else being able to slide as comfortably into XCX’s realm. You can’t help curl out of your position on the couch, watch Aminé dancing on that impossibly beautiful Italian island, and dance along. If Aminé is having a brat summer, so too must we.
Next weekend, Aminé’s noun-cum-adjective summer continues. 360.5 arrives ahead of Amine’s hometown festival, The Best Day Ever, set to take place in Portland on Aug 10th and 11th, featuring KAYTRANADA, Toro y Moi, Ravyn Lenae, Karrahbooo, and BADBADNOTGOOD, among others. Perhaps– if you’re not enjoying a neapolitan sunset– you might enjoy the remix there. Or stay on your couch, if that's brat enough for you.
