“IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild” takes classical music out of the elusive opera house and many, many miles away; landing in gardens, state parks, ranches and anywhere else that allows for mindful wandering. The concert series, returning for its tenth season beginning May 10, transforms how concertgoers perceive live music by encouraging them to explore their surroundings, whilst listening to the performance through wireless headphones. Hunter Noack, classical pianist and naturalist, founded the concert series in 2016, with a desire to remove obstacles to the classical listening experience — reimagining classical music from a symbol of eminence to an opportunity for unity.

The 2025 IN A LANDSCAPE tour runs from May 10 to September 21, meeting attendees amidst lush botanical gardens, atop weathered mountains and in the backyards of sprawling vineyards. Coupled with his own art, Noack frequently features poets, dancers, Native American musicians and other visual artists that further transcend concertgoers’ idea of the status quo. The nonprofit’s consistent partnerships with state and national parks feels particularly topical in the face of federal-level attacks on these very spaces — underscoring the value of accessible, inclusive art.

In the spirit of accessibility, IN A LANDSCAPE subsidizes ticket pricing at 95% of its concerts and has distributed over $100,000 in free tickets annually through its Good Neighbor Program. If one decides to join Noack in his travels across the American West, they can prepare to leave their Sunday best at home and embrace the world’s oldest concert hall — the great outdoors.
