Floating into the Los Angeles area from October 30th to March 16th, the Balloon Museum’s Let’s Fly inflatable art exhibition will be presented at Ace Mission Studios. Headlining the exhibition is Mariposa, a new creation by Oakland-based LED artist Christopher Schardt. This 26-foot-wide masterpiece, which premiered at Burning Man 2023, features over 39,000 vivid LEDs that illuminate its massive wingspan. Alongside Schardt’s work, Let’s Fly showcases installations from 21 global artists, including Alex Schweder, Camilla Falsini, Cyril Lancelin, ENESS, Filthy Luker, Hyperstudio, Karina Smigla-Bobinski, Mauro Pace, Max Streicher, Michael Shaw, MOTOREFISICO, MyeongBeom Kim, Ouchhh, Quiet Ensemble, Roman Hill, Rub Kandy, Sasha Frolova, Sila Sveta, SpY, and Tadao Cern.
The Balloon Museum has curated an exclusive collection that elevates inflatable and balloon art to unprecedented levels. Each exhibition is transformed by the host city’s cultural pulse, but remains united by the ethereal element of air. Here, viewers are immersed in a sensory journey through works that balance lightness and gravity, brightness and shadow, while encouraging hands-on interaction. The monumental scale invites audiences to not only view but physically connect with the art — touch, feel, and share in its magic.
Since launching in Rome in 2021, the Balloon Museum’s awe-inspiring installations have attracted more than 4.4 million visitors worldwide. Following sold-out tours across cities like Atlanta, Barcelona, Brussels, Düsseldorf, London, Madrid, Miami, Milan, Naples, New York, and Paris, Let’s Fly now lands on the west coast. LA’s vibrant Arts District provides a fitting backdrop for this immersive art experience, inviting visitors of all ages to dive into a world where contemporary art becomes truly tangible.
