Couch Prints has just released their newest single, “True Religion,” which serves not only as an excellent auditory offering but also as a preview for their upcoming debut LP Waterfall: Rebirth. Their latest release presents a sonic landscape composed of voice memo snippets, subway brakes, and distorted guitars. With “True Religion” Couch Prints is able to delve into the essence of New York City and the artists that live within the exposed-brick walls around the city.
Mastered by Alec Ness, "True Religion" is an intricately crafted musical composition, brought to life by the collective talents of Couch Prints’ member Brandon Tong, Junius Karr (known for The Hellp and Paris Michael), Thomas O'Donnell, and Ero. This sonic tapestry seamlessly blends voice memo samples, stomped box guitars, glitchy drums, and piercing synthesizers. The track effortlessly combines the lightheartedness of early 2000s nostalgia with a disconcerting ambiance.
Alongside the debut of "True Religion," a high-energy music video was filmed and created by Màn Rán Studio, located in Flushing Chinatown. This captivating visual presentation provides a spellbinding peek into the contrasting allure of the city that’s been hailed as the greatest on Earth. Seamlessly intertwining with the song's motifs of introspection and the transient nature of life, the video unfolds within the realms of automobiles, cement factories, and subway stations. It artfully captures the cold, mechanized essence that lies at the core of human existence.
“True Religion,” out today, is a preview off of Couch Prints' upcoming LP Waterfall: Rebirth out September 15, 2023.
