The Great Pyramid of Giza is emblematic of the ancient world—of a time that we will only ever see through relics and know through stories—but Dior chooses to bring the past to the present. The changing colors of the sky, the starry nights, and the landscapes served as inspiration for Dior’s Guided by the Stars Fall 2023 capsule collection, presented at the Great Pyramid of Giza. This same starry imagery, as well as astrology, guided the brand’s inception 75 years ago.
The collection takes the audience from day to night—channeling the desert's grays throughout, incorporating yellow for a vibrant sunset, and a space print for nightfall, when the stars come out. Other themes of the collection include layering, blending traditionally masculine and feminine styling, tailored pieces, and futuristic footwear. While deeply rooted in the past, the collection has an air of futurism; combined, it somehow feels timeless.
“My interest in Ancient Egypt is about the stars and the sky. It’s that fascination with the ancient world and the parallels with what we look at today; what we inherited from them and what we are still learning from the past,” Dior Men creative director Kim Jones says. “In both the collection and the show there is an idea of ‘guided by the stars’ and what that can entail in many ways. It’s about how the past shapes the future or an idea of the future from the past.”
