Upbeat, funky, and nostalgic – experimental house/techno producer Gerry Read is here to expand the public’s musical palette with the release of his latest single, “Cream Pie,” followed by the subsequent release of his LP, ‘Love Can Go The Distance.’

The groovy song honors Read’s roots in house and techno music with a cheerful 70’s twist – something of an audible embodiment of cyber-sunshine. Accompanied by a 32 track collection of sounds straight from Read’s eclectic mind, the LP coalesces into a medley of genres, eras, and sentiments. Songs like “Sunday 3 January” and “Ain’t Going Nowhere” offer upbeat and cheerful grooves with roots that seem to stem from different eras of hip hop, while the titular “Love Can Go the Distance” offers a melodic profession of faith in love featuring sounds reminiscent of 80’s love songs, early 2000’s pop, and mbube vocals. Concurrently, tracks like “You’ve Been Lost In Our Darkness” add further nuance to the LP with its subdued yet electric nature.

Always one to surprise with his enthralling bending and blending of genres, Read does not stray away from his commitment to experimentation with this newest release. However, the collection of songs does lend itself towards an overall more soulful sound, slightly drifting from his previous house music heavy works. The sensual undertone derived from this undertaking lends itself quite nicely to the subject matter of the LP. Perhaps intentional, perhaps a happy coincidence, listeners can be the judge on Oct 25, 2024. In the meantime, “Cream Pie” is now available for streaming on Soundcloud.
