Rozie Ramati, the 23 year-old self-taught singer-songwriter and producer, just released her new single “Puppets for the Gods.” Produced by Cowboy Lansky and Casey MQ–with a string arrangement from Isaac Pross, the song is an exploration into the mental hijacking that passion enables, the desire to throw reason to the wind in exchange for the bliss of indulgence. Similar to much of Rozie’s work, the song is born out of the exhilaration of infatuation. Engaging in day-long texting sessions, playfully teasing and yearning for the possibility of sharing a kiss. The song portrays the influential forces that bind two individuals with unquestionable mutual emotions, akin to puppets controlled by a higher power. It expresses the desire to resist acknowledging one's feelings for another person, yet being powerless to do so; instead, destined by divine intervention to unite in an embrace.
The track features experimental vibrato vocals over a piano-and-string dominant sonic background that come together to create something as intriguing to the ear as it is euphonious. In Rozie’s voice, you can hear the clear influence of singers like Amy Winehouse but in her execution–the vocals end up as something distinctly unique to her. The production is top-tier, and its eclectic feel lends itself perfectly to Rozie's unique singing style.
