Arlo Parks x Puma Blue | Perform at The Fonda Theatre

Photographs by Shei Marcelline

Puma Blue and Arlo Parks performed at The Fonda Theatre Friday night. The UK-born singers mesmerized the crowd with their dulcet voices and classic melodic tunes. Puma Blue, a stage alias for lead singer Jacob Allen, opened up the night performing his sultry, instrumentally intricate classics ‘(She’s ) Just a Phase’ and ‘Moon Undah Water’. He also performed his latest released ‘Hounds,’ a harmoniously eerie track that possesses a more experimental nature. Arlo Parks later took the stage, her ethereal and effervescent energy permeating the air. The poet and singer performed tracks off of her 2021 debut album ‘Collapsed in Sunbeams,’ such as ‘Eugene’ and ‘Caroline’, while also performing some Arlo classics, like ‘Cola’. Parks also announced her recent move to Los Angeles, eliciting an over-the-moon reaction from the audience.

In essence Puma Blue and Arlo Parks delivered performances that had us all swaying in unison, belting out lyrics, and finding ourselves lost in the heavy instrumentals. Both artists exemplify that rich and tuneful melodies intersect brilliantly with deeply vulnerable lyrics, ultimately reminding us all that music and storytelling are synonymous.
