Graal-Müritz is a small, coastal town in north-east Germany overlooking the Baltic Sea. Featuring outstanding air and water quality, the entire town has been deemed a Seeheilbad, which roughly translates to “seaside health resort.” It’s economy revolves around its reputation as a prime destination for tourists, and health-nuts alike. Graal-Müritz isn’t known for it’s sprawling population, barely 4,000 residents live there. But one specific Graal-Müritz resident was so inspired by his time living there, he decided to name an album after the town. Meet [Christian Löffler](https://www.instagram.com/christianloeffler/?hl=en), an electronic producer whose compositions blur the line between electronic and pop. “My albums and their titles always had a strong connection to home,” says Löffler in a recent interview with Flaunt. While former album titles such as _A Forest_ and _Mare_ have evoked feelings of comfort for Löffler, his newest album _Graal (Prologue),_ out April 5th via Ki-Records, directly references the producers homeland. He sat down with Flaunt to discuss how he defines his own sound, where his love for music originated, and how the majority of the songs from his newest album began as drawings in his notebook. With my more acoustic, indie rock background it is definitely electronic, even if it doesn’t really sound too much electronic. I remember when I started this project it was just Techno for me.  **The name of your album is Graal, is that home for you?** The album is named after the small coastal town in the northeast of Germany where I live. My albums and their titles always had a strong connection to home. "A Forest" and also "Mare" have been synonyms for my safe place. This time with "Graal" is even more personal with naming it directly. And also the track "Refu" is named after this safe haven.  **Not only are you a music producer but you are a visual artist as well. How do you use visual arts to enhance your music performances and vice versa?** My performances are accompanied by visuals I filmed over the last few years. Whenever I was traveling, but also at home I recorded scenes and moments. Also going back into fine art was very helpful to me to create this album. I found inspiration in starting to paint again. I created several drawings, also one called "Ry", whereupon I created the track "Ry". **What are some inspirations for your music? Do you have any kind of routine when it comes to producing new music?** Not really. There is just a moment when I feel inspired. Maybe after I was traveling to somewhere interesting or when I had an inspiring conversation with someone. Also, I actually try to break out of any routine that tries to manifest itself at some point.  **Tell us a little bit about your upcoming single, _Ry._**  I was heavily touring in the last two years, always playing my own music. I felt very inspired meeting so many people and visiting amazing places. But back home in the studio it never really worked out to transform this into new music. It was really frustrating and I decided to have a break from producing and went back into painting and drawing. Before I created my first album “A Forest“ I was studying art and I was mainly painting. Music was just a side project for me. So it felt very refreshing to go back. Luckily it also had a positive effect on my music. The first track I made after this period was “Ry“. There is also a drawing named “Ry“ what was there before, which is also part of the artwork of the new album. **When did your love for music start and how did you foster that into a career?** I always had a strong connection to music although nobody in my family is a musician. When I was six or seven me and my best friend were listening to his dad’s massive record collection almost every day. Growing up I was into computers and gaming and got in touch with the first music production software very fast. **It seems that you never have a break from live performances/ concerts! Do you enjoy performing more or producing?** I love both worlds. You can’t really compare them. Both can be very satisfying and don’t want to miss one of it anymore. But if I had to choose I would go for producing as creating is what I want to do and what my first intention was - to create a complete and finished piece of music. **What do you think is next for the world of electronic music?** Of course it’s hard to tell and as electronic music is now having a massive influence on music in general it’s surely getting bigger and more mainstream. Also, I still see it dividing more and more into subgenres. Not sure if it’s a good thing but that’s how it is with growing up. Everybody needs to find his place.  * * * Photos courtesy of the Artist
