On the eve of Miami’s Art Basel, Kim Jones, artistic director of Dior Men’s collections, presented his fall 2020 show. The immersive installation designed by Shawn Stussy was a sweet psychedelic mix of surfing and counterculture. Wave lights highlighted the reinvented graffiti Dior logo in celebration of youth, vitality, and the spirit of the new— the founding principles of Christian Dior’s 1947 “New Look.” The Dior heritage is again recognized with its classic embroidery and beadings, juxtaposed with relaxed, and less structured silhouettes. With jewelry by Yoon Ahn and berets by Stephen Jones, the two reflect the Art Deco nature of Miami beach in pastel shades of red, blue, and saffron. The unexpected, yet visually compelling Men’s collection was the perfect kick start to Basel with its blend of American and French identities in the modern era. * * *
