Faye Nguyen is a content creator, speech pathologist, and the founder of the new NGO, Autism United Action non-profit organization. As such, she works hard to clear misconceptions about people diagnosed with ASD. She also helps ensure that everyone around the world with ASD has the same opportunities. She recently cleared up some common misconceptions about ASD.
**Autism Is Just a Developed World Problem.** The autism rate tends to be higher in Developed World countries or simply talked about more. Because of this, some people falsely assume that it is just a Developed World problem. This is far from the case, as autism can affect people around the world. That is why there is a need for the Autism United Action non-profit organization. The non-profit organization specifically works with people with ASD in developing countries.
**They Cannot Lead Normal Lives.** Another common misconception is that people with autism cannot live normal lives. In reality, it exists on a spectrum, hence the name Autism Spectrum Disorder. Most people diagnosed with autism lead completely normal lives, and you cannot even tell they have the diagnosis. Others require more treatment or accommodations.
**There Is No Treatment Available.** Another misconception Faye constantly corrects is that there is no treatment for autism. There are various treatment options, depending on the challenges that someone with autism faces. Faye’s new NGO, Autism United Action non-profit organization’s existence proves that there are treatments. She says, “The non-profit organization serves as a bridge for professionals from the U.S. to provide free treatment to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families in countries that need it the most.”
Faye Nguyen’s interest in clearing up misconceptions surrounding autism comes from her career as a speech pathologist. So does the creation of the Autism United Action non-profit organization. Faye graduated with an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology in 2014. One of her professional roles after graduating has been in California, treating pediatric patients at an outpatient center. This role included treating children with an ASD diagnosis. That encouraged Faye to use her social media presence to spread awareness about autism. She also shared her experiences with autism and telehealth on the “All About Kids” podcast in 2020.
The Autism United Action non-profit organization is Faye Nguyen’s latest effort to support those with autism and raise awareness. Faye decided to use her social exposure to help children with autism in developing countries. She is in the final stage of setting up the Autism United Action non-profit organization. The first major steps are already underway.
