With Summer 2021 in full effect, music continues to prove to be the soundtrack to our long-lasting memories. Insert Canadian’s own [Kiesza](https://www.instagram.com/kiesza/) and dance music favorite [Tommy Trash](https://www.instagram.com/djtommytrash/), who team up to release their newest effort titled “[Tectonic](https://bit.ly/STREAMTECTONIC).” The two superstars join forces for their first ever collab, an upbeat banger that will have you moving and grooving on the dance floor in no time.
Back in 2017, both creatives took a hiatus from music after life-altering experiences. Kiesza endured a serious car accident that resulted in a debilitating brain injury, unable to move, sing, or perform. Tommy on the other hand went from doing 5 shows a week to quitting music altogether, finding himself in an empty void that left him emotionally and physically drained. After a 3-year ayahuasca-led sabbatical, he hops right back in the scene like he never left.
Speaking of how the song came to be, Tommy states, “Fresh from a panchakarma retreat involving hours of meditation, yoga and an 11-day fast, I found myself in a very clear, self-reflective, peaceful state. The weeks that followed were some of the most productive of my life. I composed dozens and dozens of piano pieces, where the origins of the ‘Tectonic’ instrumental were formed. Fast forward 18 months, I sent a few sketches through to Kiesza. ‘Tectonic’ was the one she connected with and I’m speechless at the lyricism and melodies she brought to the table. From the moment I heard the first demo over FaceTime, it was an immediate YES!”

Kiesza adds, “I started the idea for ‘Tectonic’ on a grand piano at my mom's home. She wanted me to help set the table for dinner while I was in the flow of writing the song, and I didn’t want to lose the song that was coming to me. I kept on writing and she got really mad at me afterwards. It was totally worth it though, I’m so proud of these lyrics. When I write, I go into a trance and if I snap out of it, sometimes I lose the whole idea. This song barely made it to me from the ether, but I’m so happy I held onto it. It wasn’t completely finished and when Tommy sent me an idea to write over, the song came back into my head from my memory and finished itself over his track. It’s amazing the journey that creativity takes. It’s such a unique song, with such a blend of mysterious darkness over the upbeat and driving house production.”
“Tectonic” is about someone running from the intense feeling of love that’s overpowering them, knowing that love always wins. Listen above and vibe out for the rest of the year and beyond!
