**Can the tension between the Pogues and the Kooks serve as a microcosm for tension in the U.S. at present?**
I don’t think it’s outwardly targeting that issue in particular. I don’t think it was meant to be political in any way. However, I do think that it is meant to serve as a bit of a contrast in mindsets to show what it is like to grow up on either side. To give a good reality of like what it’s like to grow up as a Pogue, you know there’s no rules—whereas growing up as a Kook there are rules and you know we talked about these yesterday, having to feel like you fit a certain mold.
**There’s a sense of deep-rooted friendship that translates well on screen, how did shooting together in South Carolina sort of strengthen the chemistry?**
It felt like summer camp, honestly! You have this amazing casting for everyone, and then you put us in a fun location and it just feels like the chemistry and friendship came to fruition in such a natural way. I feel like the show wouldn’t be what it is without that.

**Why are coming-of-age stories so important?**
Growing up as a teenager, there were very few shows that I watched where I felt like I genuinely related to the characters. So that somebody watching it, some high schooler, middle schooler or whoever, is watching and going to be like, ‘Oh, I get that, I relate to that,’ and at least have something to look at and feel like they can model their behavior after, it feels good. I just appreciate the honesty of it.
