At only 19 years-old, UK-based GRIFF writes and produces her own songs, creates her own clothes, and feels to Flaunt like the hottest thing out of the UK since beans on toast. Born to Jamaican and Chinese parents, GRIFF came up in the school of YouTube, where she self-taught music production, songwriting, and presumably some deftness with the needle and thread.
The artist’s EP, The Mirror Talk, was released late last year and won her accolades from a score of upper-tier fashion and music rags alike.
Now, as our cities unfurl following an unprecedented pandemic, GRIFF debuts a jam with Flaunt created during lockdown, containing perhaps a potent message for the unequivocal moment, and certainly a mantra for carrying forward into the Normal Nouveau.
On the assemblage of “Forgive Myself” in quarantine, the artist shares, ‘"Quarantine came and we had no video for "Forgive myself," so i kinda had no choice but to try and pull off a music video alone in my house. Once we brainstormed the idea for the video, I started sewing some of the outfits. I then got sent some lights, two projectors and a few tripods and spent the day filming the video on my phone and the team directed me through Zoom. it was definitely the most intense video I’ve done so far, but I’m quite proud of what we pulled off."
Well-played, Griff. Now let’s start this week off with this jam and hope for good things ahead.
