[Emotional Oranges](https://www.instagram.com/emotionaloranges/?hl=en) are the love child of a 2017 batmitzva and Lauryn Hill’s crushed velvet voice. And that’s about all we know, besides the fact that the par A&V are sonic soulmates. Praised by Michelle Obama and Guy Fieri, Emotional Oranges’ revamp R&B with soulful bass lines and modern zest, that leaves you quenched as a mouthful of cold tangerines on a summer afternoon.
Following their debut project [_The Juice Vol 1_](https://open.spotify.com/album/3No5rGRQefAlVJgWusDEwQ?si=RcO6Hlt7R6GJMw8EhqicBw) the duo unleashes a Volume 2, which was released November 8th. [_The Juice Vol 2_](https://open.spotify.com/album/6q8BNcH6wkWwWC0fGoJwkS?si=QzDwqiCgRs21fburkzaEcg) builds upon the intrigue and shovels beneath the surface of _a chill track_ and leaves you feeling the waterworks.
**How does _The Juice Vol 2_ piggyback and launch from _Vol 1_? How does it heighten the importance of love in all different shapes and colors?**
Creating Volume 1 helped us find and cultivate our identity and DNA. Volume 2 challenged us to color outside the lines, doing our best to take both conceptual and sonic risks. One of our main goals with the project was to make music that could resonate with our teen audience but also speak to our parent’s generation. When we write about love or issues in general, we always aim to present different perspectives, pulling both from our own experiences and those closest to us. The hope is to spark conversation and awareness, and ultimately unite people through the music.
**How does your music help people to face their own feelings?**
From what we have been able to gather from the meet and greets, fans are connecting and finding themselves in different parts of the Volume 2 tracks. We performed “Sundays” as an encore for our last 2 European shows and we saw a few dozen fans crying. There is an Emotional Oranges song for every mood – so no matter what you’re feeling, we got you!
**In this day in age, what is it about soul and funk that must be conserved through the changing times?**
Soulful bass lines, jazzy guitar, and heartfelt lyrics have all played a big part in why the genres of soul and funk spoke to me growing up. We hope that people truly feel that when listening to our records as those sounds shaped our identity.
**If this EP was a moodboard, what would it look like?**
The Volume 2 moldboard would look like a collage of the 90s and early 2000s. Everything from the movie Scarface for our song “Iconic”, to Brown Sugar for “Your Best Friend Is A Hater”, we continuously pull inspiration from our favorite films. The moodboard’s color pallet would be predominately warm colors, orange obviously, but we explored some forest greens, magenta (“Heal My Desires”) and yellows (“Not Worth It”) as well.
**With your shows selling out rapidly, how has touring been different for you both this time around?**
It’s honestly just been a lot of trial and error for us. Our first 7-show run helped us see what worked and what didn’t. We had the opportunity to spend time together over the Summer and map out this project on a performance level so we could feel confident about the show we are bringing to our fans every night. Excited to get back on the road in 2020 and perform some of these new Volume 2 records.
**What can we expect from Emotional Oranges in 2020?**
You can expect collaboration with some of our absolute favorite peers and a few legends that shall remain nameless!
