Moroccan-born artist [Mehdi Bahmad](https://www.instagram.com/bahmadmehdi/)’s new video for his song “Lay” invites viewers to sit back and experience a connection to the Earth and to one another. The video lives in a void space, where Bahmad emerges from a field of clay, alluding to the creation story from the Koran. What follows is a game of telephone, with Bahmad and his co-stars whispering the lyrics to one another, connecting them and expressing a sense of plurality.
_‘‘I was lying down in the sand at night and the only thing I had before my eyes was the most beautiful starry sky I had ever seen in my entire life. I felt so grounded, powerful and small at the same time. I wish I could have bottled this moment to share it. I wrote this song instead’’_
Written and composed by Bahmad and produced with [Wake Island](https://www.instagram.com/wakeislandmusic/), a queer Lebanese electronic duo, “Lay” is heartfelt and tender song bending genres and and cultural and social expectations. Watch the video below!
Mehdi Bahmad’s debut EP will be released on October 25th, 2019.
