First launched in 2014 at the Ace Hotel New York, the Artist in Residence program has since sponsored over 350 creatives, allowing each to turn one of the hotel’s rooms into a studio for a month. From charcoal-covered canvases to a dissertation on a bedsheet and even a medley of gabber mix CDs, the program knows no boundaries in its search for the inventive and ingenious.

Past participants have included Antonia Kuo, Jason Polan, Cali Thornhill DeWitt, William Powhida, Christian Joy, Nick Zinner, Jamilla Okubo, Kenzo Minami and Kandis Williams. Supporting artists, musicians and performers alike, the program embodies the Ace’s affinity for creatives and the creative spirit that drives them, a testament to the belief that visual art breathes life into a physical space.

This summer, Ace will welcome a new set of artists and curatorial partners to participate in the 2024/2025 Artist in Residence program at its hotels internationally, in New York, Brooklyn, Kyoto, Palm Springs, and Sydney. Each participating artist will complete a month-long working stay at an Ace Hotel, culminating in an exhibition of their new works. For the 2024/2025 program, Ace’s curatorial partners include Byline in Brooklyn; commune Gallery in Kyoto; Powerhouse Arts in New York; The Substation in Sydney; and FWB in partnership with Superchief Gallery in Palm Springs.

Additionally, two of the curatorial partners will be running an open call for one residency slot during their year of curation. You can apply for the Byline residency at Ace Hotel Brooklyn HERE. Submissions for FWB and Superchief’s residency slot will open in September. For more information, sign up to the FWB newsletter at https://www.fwb.help/.
