With leaps and bounds of fashionable travel innovation, Airstream has partnered with Studio F.A. Porsche, resulting in a futuristic Airstream trailer concept consisting of elevated, sophisticated design. The project is presented through photorealistic renderings on a one-third scale model and approaches the shifts being made in the RV market with several innovations, some being the first of their kind in the trailer industry. The latest design employs an insulated pop-up roof to be flexible with additional interior headspace and a lowering-option that allows for the trailer to be stored in a standard-sized, residential garages.
Other advancements include a new rear-shape that improves airflow while the trailer is moving, a refreshed underside with reduced drag-potential projections, and a sleek exterior to avoid aerodynamic drag. Below the floor is a 10-inch space where hot water and heating components are placed, a lithium battery, a spare wheel, and holding tanks. The owner-experience is enhanced with windows and skylights to create a spacious feel, connecting the inside of the airstream with their outside surroundings.
This collaboration marks the first model of the future of travel, providing a tactical trailer with a chic and lightweight feel to meet the expectations of the next generation of travelers. The concept is being showcased at South by Southwest on March 10 with a panel discussion on March 13.
