Art Bassel, an international art fair staged annually in Basel, Miami Beach, Hong Kong, and Paris, will open up its first retail store to visitors from June 11th to June 16th. The Art Basel Shop launches exclusively in Switzerland at the 2024 edition of the fair this month and was curated by renowned taste-maker Sarah Andelman, presenting a selection of lifestyle products aimed at encapsulating the world of contemporary art as well as the essence of the Art Basel experience.
The collection merges art, design, fashion, and publishing, featuring a limited-edition line created in collaboration with American artist Christine Sun Kim. Working primarily with sound and cultural translation, Kim’s product designs include a wooden baby rattle, a stamp displaying a handwritten slogan, and a collectible jigsaw puzzle.
Hayley Romer, Chief Growth Officer for Art Basel, shares, “From culture lovers to established art patrons, our audience has a strong desire for products that bottle and preserve the utterly unique experience of being at Art Basel long after the show closes.”
Other products include ceramic dinnerware painted with illustrations by French porcelain creator, Non Sans Raison as well as collectible skate decks produced by THE SKATEROOM and printed with Cindy Sherman’s iconic photography. The Jean-Michel Basquiat Ferris Wheel Toy by Luna Luna is surely a stand-out piece: a mobile wooden replica of the artist's ride at the 1987 amusement park in Hamburg which features unique visual art including a chicken roasting on a spit and a monkey’s backside.
Art Basel will also be launching a selection of memorabilia that honors the diverse array of artwork showcased at the fair itself since 1970. AB by Art Basel offers a range of apparel and accessories that reflect the fair’s most notable moments.
To preview the shop’s grand debut, Art Basel is hosting a series of events including a meet-and-greet and product signing with Sarah Andelman and Christine Sun Kim as well as a book Signing with artists David Shrigley and Ryan Gander.
The Art Basel Shop will be located in Hall 1.0 beginning Tuesday June 11th.
