Celine has revealed that Michael Rider will assume the role of artistic director, commencing in early 2025. Previous art director, Hedi Slimane's departure from Celine now marks the conclusion of a remarkable chapter for the brand. Over his seven-year time with the fashion house, Slimane orchestrated many transformations, including the audacious decision to remove the accent from the name and the introduction of menswear, beauty, and fragrance lines that broadened Celine’s appeal. While his choices sparked debate, they undeniably yielded financial success, culminating in record-breaking sales in 2023. T

As Slimane’s contract comes to an end in early 2024, the fashion world has eagerly anticipated his successor. Rider’s impressive journey includes a decade as design director at Celine under the esteemed Phoebe Philo, followed by a successful stint as creative director at Polo Ralph Lauren. His return to Celine is especially poignant, given his profound understanding of the brand’s heritage.

Severine Merle, CEO of Celine conveyed her delight in welcoming Rider back, stating, ”I am delighted to welcome Michael back to Celine, a Maison that he knows intimately. Michael’s vision, creative talent, together with his genuine nature and strong connection to Celine's heritage make him a natural choice to continue to build a long-lasting success for the Maison.”

Michael Rider shares, “Celine is a Maison with values very close to my heart and a beautiful heritage to build on. I am honored to come back and shape the future of the Maison together with the Celine team.”

As Michael Rider prepares to take over, the fashion community eagerly awaits how he will weave innovation into the fabric of Celine’s storied legacy.
