Ladies and gentlemen, Paris Fashion Week 2024 has come and gone in a flurry of back-to-back runways. To close out the week, Loewe staged its SS25 Menswear show at La Garde Républicaine on Saturday, June 22.
The looks, created by long-time Loewe designer Jonathan Anderson, were displayed in tandem with a series of art pieces by Peter Hujar, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Carlo Scarpa, and Paul Thek. Entitled “A Radical Act of Restraint,” the scene plays into writer Susan Sontag’s idea of “erotics of art:” A wooden chair, a coat stand, a black and white photograph of a high heel, all allude to the artists' exploration of the mundane, elevated by their individualized radicality. Against the set, the looks themselves were a fractured mise-en-scène, the performance slipping between fantasy and reality, whimsical to mundane.
