On December 14, the Marciano Art Foundation held an opening reception for Lightscape by Doug Aitken and Quaternion by Andrew Zebulon & Kristen Wentrcek. The night featured a performance from LA Phil's Joanne Pearce Martin, and a special screening of Transmissions: Selections from the Marciano Collection. Many notable members of the Los Angles arts community attended the evening, from Marciano Art Foundation Director Hanneke Skerath, to artist Kim Gordon.
Lightscape is a multi-channel video installation located in the 13,000-square-foot Theater Gallery. Large screens transmit clips of flickering neon lights and lonesome cowboys while an ambient soundscape reverberates around the room.
Andrew Zebulon & Kristen Wentrcek’s Quaternion is on display in the new MAF Library exhibition space. The installation consists of sixteen original pieces, creating a unique array of functional furniture hand-carved from industrial-grade foam. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the works, taking a moment to sit and relax with (or rather on) the art.
In attendance were artists Doug Aitken, Lita Albuquerque, Sam Falls, Kim Gordon, Shio Kusaka, Liz Larner, Shana Lutker, Maysha Mohamedi, Jim Shaw, Kristen Wentrcek, Jonas Wood, and Andrew Zebulon.
