The Broad in Downtown Los Angeles hosted the highly anticipated opening of Mickalene Thomas: All About Love. The exhibition marks the artist's first major international touring showcase, co-organized by the Hayward Gallery in London and The Broad in Los Angeles, and in collaboration with the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. Presented by Dior, the event welcomes guests Quinta Brunson, Law Roach, Lauren Halsey, and Yara Shahidi, as well as artists: Jeffrey Deitch, Catherine Opie, Lauren Halsey, Simone Leigh, and Elliott Hundley.
The night brought an exclusive preview of Thomas's exhibition, featuring over 90 works spanning the last two decades of her career. Spread across the museum's first-floor galleries, the collection provided a comprehensive insight into Thomas's artistic evolution and thematic explorations. The evening was accompanied by tunes from DJ Linafornia and a special performance by Getting Better Every Day, a step team from Camden, New Jersey, choreographed by Indigo Pascall, Thomas' cousin.
With its debut at The Broad, Mickalene Thomas: All About Love promises to make a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Los Angeles and beyond, showcasing the profound influence of Thomas's artistry and vision. On view until September 29th.
