A garment begins as an idea: small, simple, powerless. Through the care and attention of the designer, it grows into something more, taking on color and texture and shape, and only once it has bloomed fully can it be seen by the world.

In the case of the Munthe SS25 runway show, the creation process started with a literal seed, selected with the utmost care by founder and creative director Naja Munthe and sown in her personal greenhouse. Once the seeds blossomed, the flowers were plucked and arranged by hand against paper to create a one-of-a-kind floral print, the centerpiece of Munthe's latest collection.

On this overarching motif, Naja Munthe shared, “The concept of ‘planting a seed’ embodies the essence of uncertainty yet signifies both beginnings and endings. Witnessing growth, whether of an idea or a literal seed, is deeply inspiring. This season, my vision was to take inspiration from ‘planting a seed’ and watch it grow, not knowing what the end result would be.”

The runway show, staged at the Bella Centre in the fashion house’s origin city of Copenhagen, featured garments printed with the handmade floral pattern as well as a vibrant array of colors drawn directly from Munthe’s greenhouse: blues and light yellows, purple, and striking red mimic the vibrant hues of a flower petal, capturing the very essence of spring. The spirit of Munthe is greatly influenced by art, as reflected in the intricate patterns, as organic elements take on the role of the muse. The collection also required meticulous handcrafting to achieve ornate beading patterns and three-dimensional floral designs.

This August, Munthe celebrates its 30th anniversary, and as Naja Munthe made her way down the runway to close the SS25 show in striking red attire, a crowd of over 400 spectators rose to applaud her and the spectacular growth of her creation.
