Prada kicked off International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22nd with a talk at the Broadway Epicenter featuring Emmy-nominated photographer and climate artist Enzo Barracco alongside a stunning selection from his photography books, The Noise of Ice: Antarctica and The Skin of Rock Galápagos. Barracco discussed sustainability awareness and ocean preservation with UNESCO-IOC Officer Francesca Santoro and NMEA Blue Schools Chair Meghan Marrero.
The talk was one of many ongoing dialogues organized by Prada Possible Conversations and dedicated to SEA BEYOND, Prada Group’s educational program since 2019. Possible Conversations upholds Prada’s powerful influence over cultural debate by connecting people from different, often contrasting industries: fashion designers, visual artists, critical thinkers, scientists, and cultural experts.
Marrero, speaking on behalf of the NMEA, recognized the importance of younger generations in the future of our ocean’s well-being, while Barracco discussed his contribution to marine activism, sharing, “I do it through photography because photography doesn’t need translation.” The conversation reflected the need for urgency, action, and collaboration at this critical moment in time when our ocean teeters on the edge of environmental disaster—a disaster induced by unsustainability and negligence.
The next collaboration between Barracco and SEA BEYOND will occur this coming December at Prada’s epicenter in Tokyo with a second photographic exhibition and the launch of Barracco’s latest book on Hawaii’s biodiversity.
