In 1913, Mario Prada explored his deep interest in global culture, venturing from Milano to various corners of the earth to contribute to a growing accessory and fine clothing brand. Generations of superlative craftsmanship and enduring, worldly curiosity later, inside the Deposito at Fondazione Prada in Milan, the Prada Spring/Summer 2024 Womenswear fashion show was held, distilling and interpolating that luxurious impulse, that innate curiosity, which served as the impetus for a singular handbag designed by Mario Prada over a century ago.
Held in the Prada archives for over a century, this particular evening bag has a distinctive clasp detail: a hand-carved fastening depicting a mythological figure, which reflects contemporary enthusiasm for late-nineteenth and early-twentieth-century Eastern aesthetics. Originally proposed in silk moiré, the bag style is recreated in nappa leather and re-nylon throughout the collection, accompanied by belted shorts, dress fragments, and patinated leather garments.
Iterations of the original evening bag are reflected in every garment. Renewing and invigorating Prada’s century-long commitment to luxury manifest in curiosity, the SS24 Womenswear collection is mired in Prada's legacy of meaningful exploration through luxurious indulgence.
