Since its debut in 1996, the Soho Grand Hotel has been a steadfast tribute to the vibrant culture and storied past of downtown New York City. Nestled at 310 W Broadway, this hotel has become a magnet for the city's creative pulse, drawing in visionaries from architecture, art, design, fashion, film, and music. Mirroring the eclectic spirit of Soho itself, the Soho Grand is home to a carefully curated collection of original works. Now, in a nod to the area's artistic legacy — once home to over 200 galleries — the hotel proudly introduces its newest addition: The Gallery at Soho Grand.
The grand opening unveiled Under a Rock, an exclusive exhibition in collaboration with The Morrison Hotel Gallery. This showcase presents an extraordinary collection of photographs captured by Chris Stein. Through Stein’s distinctive and personal lens, visitors will journey into the heart of New York City’s downtown music and punk scene, featuring rare glimpses of iconic figures like Debbie Harry, the Ramones, Patti Smith, Fab 5 Freddy, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. In attendance were rock, fashion, and nightlife photographers David Goldlis, Marcia Resnick, and Dustin Pittman to honor the legendary Blondie guitarist. As DJ Nina Tarr spun new wave hits, guests savored custom cocktails cleverly named "One Way or Another." Attendees admired the stunning collection of images, while downtown’s rising stars—Josie Dupont, Melissa Rich, and Kyle Sosa—mingled with Sonic Youth and nightlife icon Dianne Brill.
Stein, co-founder, guitarist, and songwriter of the legendary band Blondie, is equally revered as a photographer, a passion he embraced back in 1968. With his camera in hand, Chris chronicled the electrifying world around his band, documenting the pulse of the burgeoning punk and new wave scenes from the inside. His unique position allowed him to not only capture the rise of these genres but also immerse himself among fellow trailblazers, preserving moments shared with not only the era’s musical pioneers but also aspirational creatives striving for their own moments in the spotlight.
The Gallery, drawing inspiration from the neighborhood's rich artistic heritage, boasts its own private street entrance and restrooms, offering both convenience and exclusivity. For added flexibility, it seamlessly connects to Gilligan’s, Soho Grand’s seasonal outdoor restaurant and event space, open from May through September. With an expansive, open-concept layout covering 1,345 square feet, The Gallery is a blank canvas designed to adapt to any occasion, whether an intimate gathering or a larger exhibition. Its versatility and sophistication make it the ideal backdrop for art showcases, chic events, or anything in between — a space where creativity truly comes to life.
To champion both emerging and established artists, The Gallery at Soho Grand will feature a rotating selection of exhibitions. This versatile “white-box” space is perfect for private parties, pop-ups, product launches, brand activations, and fashion events on top of art displays. With its refined industrial elegance, hardwood floors, and generous natural light streaming through expansive storefront windows, the venue strikes a perfect balance between style and functionality. Equipped with modern amenities — including adjustable track lighting, an audio system, projection capabilities, and dedicated high-speed WiFi — this space is designed to elevate any event.
