Tommy Hilfiger partnered with Awake NY for a collection that combines the back-to-school uniform of the ‘90s hip-hop era with the contemporary spirit that Awake NY provides. The launch of the Tommy x Awake NY collection is a nostalgic celebration of a stereotypical ritual for high school students–putting together the perfect first-day-of-school look. “High school style is a cornerstone of American youth culture,” says Tommy Hilfiger.
Fusing the street-style provided by brand director for Awake NY, Angelo Baque, with Tommy Hilfiger’s signature prep aesthetic, this 17-piece collection pays tribute to the students of the ‘90s who favored the hip-hop spirit. As pop culture continuously defines the looks of each generation, this collection honors that with a fresh twist to some of Tommy’s archival classics.
The collection’s campaign honored the heritage and birthplace of both brands by including five New York high school students captured on the streets of NYC. The reversible puffer jacket pays homage to the bold attitude of NYC, as it’s adorned with recycled filling featuring a print of the city. “As a New York City high school kid, your fit is everything”, shares Angelo Baque. “When I was in high school wearing anything Tommy validated who you were–it gave you a sense of confidence.”
The classic styles of both brands effortlessly merge together with the integration of pieces such as a polar fleece jacket decorated in the Awake NY daisy print and accompanied by the iconic Tommy flag and its collaborative logo in the recognizable red, white and blue.
The collection will be available at select TOMMY JEANS stores and wholesale partners, and online at tommy.com or awakenyclothing.com
